Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The primary difference between ceramic and metal braces is the materials the orthodontic hardware is made from. Ceramic braces use tooth coloured materials (not always ceramic!) to blend the braces with the mouth. There is no difference in the treatment time between metal braces and ceramic braces, unlike clear aligners which can take more time to complete treatment.

Ceramic braces function the same way as metal braces, using brackets and wires to move teeth over time with a more aesthetic appearance. Invisalign is a type of clear aligner where the patient wears multiple sets of moulded clear aligners over time to move the teeth. Braces can be used for all orthodontic treatment, whereas invisalign cannot be used for complex cases. Invisalign also take longer on average than braces to achieve the final result.

Besides the visual difference of ceramic and metal braces the treatment time is exactly the same.

Clear or ceramic braces have brackets made from ceramics or porcelain. With wires of a light colour or clear colour.
