Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Invisalign is a type of clear aligners that are custom moulded from plastic to your teeth. An orthodontist does 3D scans of your teeth and jaw, determines the final position of your teeth and then plans out stages of aligners to move the teeth. Each new set of Invisalign clear aligners moves the teeth over time into the new position. It is a discrete option to align teeth but also may not be possible in complex cases.

Invisalign uses multiple custom moulded clear aligners in stages to move your teeth into position. Braces used metal brackets attached to the teeth and wires under tension to move your teeth to the desired position. Invisalign is more aesthetic and can be removed but costs more money and can’t be used on complex cases. Metal braces are the most cost effective, fastest method and can be used on all orthodontic cases.

After your first treatment we will provide you with care instructions that detail how to keep your aligners clean. This will also include the products necessary to keep it clean. Its important to follow these instructions to keep the aligners clean and to avoid cracking or damage to the aligners.

Invisalign is one of the less invasive options for aligning your teeth. You may experience some discomfort for each new stage of aligner as the teeth move into the mould but this will improve over time.

One of the advantages of Invisalign is that you can take your aligners out to eat food. We recommend that you only drink water with your aligners. When eating food, make sure to remove the aligners as chewing with aligners will damage them. Outside of eating, to make sure your treatment is as effective as possible, the aligners should be worn as often as possible.

All patients and treatments are different, your personalised treatment plan during your consultation will outline the assumed timeline for treatment. The orthodontist will run you through the schedule of aligners and appointments for full treatment. This can change over time as some teeth are easier or harder to move than others.
